Sudden Valley

This years RWI was held at Monterey North (Bellingham). Welcome new member Frank Chin.

Round 1 Sudden Valley, Pink Ball

For the first time in several years, Calvin didn't loose the pink ball and the Class of 70 brought the pink ball home for a first round victory. Benny & the Jets finished second, making it to 15, and the Class of 71 lost their ball on 9.

Class of 71 teeing off.

Dinner was at the Skagit Casino buffet. It's a good thing crabs have lots of legs, or there would be a lot more dead crabs. The highlight of the trip was Norm going for a ride with a hot roll.

Round 2 Shuksan, Black v Red

The Red team (Calvin, Benny, Dicky, Norm & Dale) kicked the Black teams (Ronnie, Frank, Edmon, Dionnie, Jack) butt 33 to 15.

Dinner was at the Chuckanut Brewery, paid by Norm whose pockets were bulging with the previous nights winnings. We had a little fun with the waitress. Benny asked if anyone ever told her she looked like Minnie Drive, said no, but that people say she looks like Scarlett Johansson. http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1631685888/nm0424060

Round 3 Lake Padden, Scramble/Best Ball

The team lead by Super Senior Frank, Dale, Edmon and Norm won the last event with a score of 117. Coming in second was Benny, Calvin & Jack with 123. Pulling up the rear was Ronnie, Dionnie & Richard with 127. (Not to be making excuses, but don't you think that the teams with only 3 people were at a disadvantage in the 2 man best ball?) After eating too much heavy food & drinking the previous days, we had a dry lunch at Pho 99.

Special Awards

Beat the Odds: Jack

Norm had his version of the guess guesser and Jack beat both of his bets by beating Frank and Richard (or course Frank had to give him 7 strokes and Richard had to play 9 holes vs. Jack's 6)

Competitive Eating: Ronnie

Ruben and Brautwurst for dinner, "Extra" large bowl of Pho for lunch

Biggest Toy: Dionnie

Is it as big as his camera?

Dirty Old Man: Benny

Flirted with the waitress but couldn't get her to crack a smile

Lightweight: Dale

Couldn't drink in the evening because of too much on the course

Hi Roller: Norm

Lucky on both types of greens this weekend.

(Doesn't) Act Like You've Done it Before: Edmon

Jumps up and down when he gets a birdie

Cool Hand Luke: Richard

Pickled egg for dinner

Carried his team to victory

RWI 2009

Comes in second again, like Greg Norman

How is it that the Super Senior always wins?

Too quick for the camera to focus

Notice the flex of the shaft due to such fast swing speed

Ronnie admiring his shot

You can tell by the footprints that Fred took more than one to get out

The hole was outside of camera range

Acting like he makes birdies all the time

Nice finish wasted on practice swing

Do you think he made it?

Trophy Lake

McCormick

This years RWI was the Silverdale (what we will be calling Dale in a few years) Beach Resort Package at McCormick, Gold Mt. and Trophy Lake. The first days Pink Ball at McCormick was won by Benny & the Jets with an amazing score of 87, which would have beat anyone but Benny. The KP event at Gold Mt. Olympic was won by Glove's team of Benny, Dave & Corey. A few diehards played another round at the Cascade Course. Calvin won Norm's 18 questions & Edmon came in second. The final round at Trophy Lake got called due to lightning. The winnings were enough to cover Nacho's and beer. Next year will be in Portland. Save the weekend of July 16, 17 & 18.

Past RWIs

These pictures are from Homestead and Semiahmoo in 2007, Desert Canyon in 2006 and Avalon in 2004. I didn't get any pictures from Suncadia in 2005. The picture with Richard is the KP on the 18th hole island green at homestead. I think Edmon was draining a long putt on the 18th at Semiahmoo.

Dirty Dozen

The RWI tour is gaining in popularity and now has expanded to the Dirty Dozen. New members include Dionnie, Fred (2nd year rookie, took 9 years to make it back to the tour), Benny & Jack. We started out at the new White Horse course that favors shotmakers like Benny. There wasn't anything that favored the rest of us. The competition that day was Pink Ball with the Class of 70 coming in first. (I didn't feel so bad for losing the ball when I found out we won). The next day brought us to Dungeness where the competition was a blind draw hidden nine. The team of Ronnie, David, Dale, Corey were the winners of that event. Dinner was at the 7 Cedars Casino. We thought we could get a free dinner by winning some of the casino money by putting it in the hands of the 4man. Things looked good with 4man taking the dice right off the bat and throwing back-2-back 7’s and then a yo. But things did not go according to plan so to get our money's worth, we all had double helpings of prime rib & crab. The closing round was at Pt. Ludlow where the event was the Ryder Cup, which consisted of a best ball, scramble & chapman. The teams were determined by the previous two days seedings. Dionnie just missed an eagle on the closing hole. The team of Dave, Edmon, Fred & Calvin took this event with clutch shots when needed. You should be able to drag the pictures to your desktop. Hold mid July for next year. Potential sites are Spokane or Portland.
